Dynamic and constantly evolving.
We craft buildings, shape places and challenge the norm.
why we started
ByOthers was founded in 2020 to broaden the scope of typical architecture practice and challenge what a design studio can be in the 21st Century. Delivering positive change within the built environment is a dynamic challenge and design is a constantly evolving process. We are agents of change, working with the idealists and disruptors who believe in a brighter, open-minded and ambitious future.
what we do
First and foremost, we are a team of architects. As a design-led practice, we know architects are well placed to address the problems that humanity faces. We aspire to be architects in the most complete sense; to navigate the complex and multifaceted discipline of architecture and create beautiful – and impactful – buildings and places.
who we areByOthers was founded on the basis that creating impactful change to and within the built environment is a multidisciplinary challenge. We believe that projects should be driven by ideas, not egos and this means building a highly collaborative team that shares skills and ideas to achieve a collective goal.
Richard founded ByOthers in 2020 seeing an opportunity to begin a new kind of architecture practice. His focus is simple, high-quality architecture that responds to the challenges of our time. Richard studied architecture in Edinburgh and Stockholm, going on to join Rogers Stirk Harbour + Partners where he became an associate and worked on world-class projects in London, including the Leadenhall building in the City of London. Later, he joined Bjarke Ingels Group where he led a number of significant projects including Google’s new Kings Cross HQ.
Alec is a graduate from The University of Nottingham and The London School of Architecture, where he developed an interest in tackling complex urban problems. His thesis project proposed a campus of agricultural and culinary buildings as an exemplary microcosm of sustainable food. Prior to joining ByOthers, Alec worked at architectural offices in London and San Francisco. Alec is currently leading a number of projects in the office.
Amber joined ByOthers after studying at London Metropolitan University and The University of Liverpool. Whilst studying, Amber designed a later living co-housing scheme, focusing on collective as well as individual needs. She has a hands-on approach to design, using physical models and sketching to explore and develop projects at concept stages through to technical design. Currently, Amber is project lead for many jobs in the office and is gaining invaluable experience working on site.
