Court Balconies

A feasibility study for residents of a 1920s apartment block in South London looking for a solution to their lack of outdoor space. We proposed a lightweight intervention of steel balconies, inspired by steelwork found on buildings of the same era.

Location: London
Typology: Residential
Client: Private
Size: 8 external balconies
Scope: Architectural services, RIBA 1-2

We developed an outline structural concept with a structural engineer to minimise the impact on the existing building. This involved lowering the existing windows to become french doors and introducing new steelwork.
